5 WAYS TO USE WATERCOLOUR IN CHILDREN'S ROOMS
Watercolour has long since been a medium for artists and the trend has certainly paved its' way into home interiors in a BIG way too! I love all things watercolour and realize that I often reach for it when i'm at a shop looking around.
Part of the fun of kids' spaces is getting to try out trends in a small or big way. See how you can use watercolour in your own children's rooms below.
1. Wall Decals (via Urbanwalls)
Wall decals are such an easy and effective way to change the look and feel of a room and these watercolour decals add a soft and lovely feel to this teen bedroom. If you don't think you'd love this forever, don't worry...just peel off!
2. Art Prints (via Etsy)
With so much emphasis on kids rooms, it's no surprise that kids art has become incredibly popular too. Watercolour prints have always been and will continue to be big in kids spaces (so much fun to make prints too!).
3. Wallpaper (via mommodesign)
This cactus wallpaper by Anewall has become a fantastic way to add colour to a modern monochrome kids room and shows how watercolour can be used to create HUGE impact.
4. Sheepskin Rug (via Lulu & Georgia)
Why not add a splash of colour while adding a soft sheepskin to your space? This watercolour sheepskin rug is truly unique!
5. Blanket (via Etsy)
A blanket is the perfect way to add a bit of watercolour to a baby nursery, and this one is so sweet.
What do you think? Could you see yourself using watercolour in your own home decor? If you like the idea of adding a few watercolour items to your kiddies rooms, I've rounded up some of my favourites below.

EMIL: A NATURE LOVERS TODDLER BOY ROOM REVEAL
I am SO EXCITED to reveal our newest little boy's room...a nature inspired space for sweet Emil! This room was created for a full-service client here in Vancouver and was designed with one of Emil's key interests in mind, the outdoors. With this project, our client wanted a toddler room created in their newly purchased home for her 2 year old son. What little boy wouldn't adore peering up at that tree while drifting off to sleep?!
When I first met Emil's mom, she had so many great ideas for the room, including a floor to ceiling mural of a tree, this incredible light and a loft bed. The room didn't have super high ceilings, so we sourced this gorgeous bed that would fit the room while still giving Emil the sense of a loft bed or truer to what we were going for, tree house.
I LOVE the bed and thankfully it was a universal hit, as Emil and both of his parents loved it too. It's just such a cute, fun space to climb into, peek out of, and to feel cozy in for reading books or night time sleep.
The tree mural was truly a labour of love created by Vancouver-based artist Kim Hunter, who has created murals all over the city and in various parts throughout Canada. Kim helped in choosing a similar tree to the ones that Emil can see from his windows and added layers of colours to tie in with the wood of the bed and colour of the rug.
We found this super cute nightlight from Studio Zoethout on Etsy and it is just beautifully made adding such a sweet and playful accessory that Emil can easily turn on and off himself. I am truly in love with the lamp and stool, from Stray Dog Designs.
This dresser is a key piece that will take Emil through his childhood years and well into his teens. The room was accessorized with cute wooden figures of animals and lots of books for Emil to access himself.
We chose these art prints, which were created by Amy Hamilton, who is a Canadian graphic designer and illustrator. The prints are beautiful quality and tie in perfectly with the outdoor theme. I really wanted to create a sense of playfulness in Emil's toddler boy room, while keeping in mind that he will grow with this space too.
When the room was fully complete, our little client was over the moon with what had been created. He literally leapt in and out of the bed, explored the toys and books and relaxed on the soft rug underfoot.

ONE PIECE GROWS - OTTOMANS
For a simple seat anywhere in the house, I love poufs or ottomans! This versatile seat works across spaces and I love to show you how to transition one single piece across spaces in your home.
As I work with more and more clients, I find that people are really looking for items that can not only be used in their baby nursery, but also as key design pieces in other parts of their homes too and it made me think a lot about ensuring the pieces we choose are not only beautiful but functional for years to come too.
This beautiful metallic ottoman is one of those pieces. Perfect in a nursery but also incredibly practical in the living room too.
As with any leather item, this ottoman only gets better with age. Looking to nab an ottoman for yourself? See a whole bunch (including a vegan option!!) below.

CREATING A PHOTO BOOK...
After my sister Amanda photographed me and my sweet children a few weeks ago in an outdoor summer photo shoot that I will cherish forever, I wanted to not only save these memories in my mind but also in a special scrapbook. Since I don’t ever seem to take the time to make cut and paste scrapbooks these days, I decided to go digital and make a photo book online. I wanted the look and feel of the book to complement the photos and decided to use Mixbook as they offer the most beautiful photo books with so many options to choose from. After scrolling through numerous options of themes, I found the perfect fit with something fresh and summery to document these special photos.
Once logged into the Mixbook site, it was really easy to select a template and get started. Importing photos was simple and the possibilities with what you can create and how you can customize the book really are endless. One of the keys things to remember while taking photos with your children is to shoot both vertically AND horizontally, especially when you start putting the photos together, it creates more interest and helps with creative layouts. I could even change the layout of the photos within the template to accommodate the direction of the pictures that I wanted to feature and the feel of the pages, which I particularly liked.
From previous experiences with photo books, I knew this time I definitely wanted to order hardcover and the lay flat option. If you are planning to not only store your book on the shelf, but also spend time looking at it with the kids, the lay flat option is a MUST! I love how the pages flow into each other and that all three kids can see both pages when they are sitting with me.
The best part of the whole experience is when the completed photo book arrived to our door. The kids were super excited to see the photos in a book instead of on screen and loved reading the little captions too. The whole experience makes me want to do a yearly photo book to capture all of our photos in one place.
Apart from actual books, the site also offers photo cards, photo prints, online invitations and SO MUCH MORE. Maybe it’s time I turn one or two of these into some new canvas prints for my walls…
Mixbook is kindly offering up to 45% off with code VACAYBK. This offer does not apply to Mosaic or Montage. Offer expires 8/31/2016.

HELLO!
WINTER DAISY was created when Melissa Barling was laying on the couch while pregnant with twins. She dreamed of a beautiful baby room but couldn't get up and make it happen. The babies were born and in those mid night wakes and early morning feeds, she decided to leave her corporate job to start a design studio + blog. Welcome to WINTER DAISY.
