TEN OF THE CUTEST NIGHT LIGHTS
If you've ever had a child who is afraid of the dark, you'll understand how important a night light can be for helping calm a fearful little one back into the lull of a night of sleep (for them and you!).
There are SO many functional options, even ones you can pick up at your nearest hardware store, but if you are looking for functional AND cute lights, here are 10 of my favourite super sweet night lights for any boy or girl to fall asleep with.

HAPPY THURSDAY + WHAT WE'RE READING...
Here in Vancouver, there has been record breaking snowfall this winter and today, the kids and I are taking a snow day! I couldn't think of better book to bring out than Over and Under the Snow written by Kate Messner. This book is not only beautiful (the texture and thickness of the pages is just perfect in my opinion), it is a special story all about what is happening under the snow while we exist above it.
Here is a page from the book:
I love books that explain concepts to children in just the right way and this book does just that in explaining that animals eat, sleep, hide and play over and under the snow. Today we are going to go outside to find squirrels, birds and see if we can find traces of what might be happening under all of this snow. It might never snow this much again here so it seems like the perfect opportunity!
At the end of the book, there is an index with pictures of the animals you meet in the book and factual information about what these animals do to survive during the winter. My 5-year-old twins love this type of information and I'm sure older kids would too.
I love setting up little invitations to play for the kids like the one below with these wooden toys and seeing where their imaginations take them to re-enact the stories we've read or experiences we've had.
Have you seen this concept in a book before? Any other must read ones for winter and snow? I'd love to hear in the comments below!

BABY & TODDLER SHARED ROOM (A SNEAK PEEK!)
Last September I started working with a new client who was pregnant with her second baby, the first little one was a 2-year-old toddler boy. At the time, my client was feeling like the amount of stuff creeping into their lives from having a growing toddler was becoming overwhelming and she really wanted to get this sorted before welcoming the new baby. The brief was essentially to transform the existing nursery (photos below) into a big boy and baby shared room that was calm and uncluttered with enough floor space for the kids to play (design board above). The space was tight but I could absolutely see how we could make this little room fit what the family wanted!
The nursery as originally photographed:
Design wise, they wanted the space to feel bright and happy, using natural materials and keeping the room within a neutral colour scheme as they were leaving the gender of the baby a surprise until delivery. Functionally, they wanted access to both beds, some dim lighting for night time, access to toys and a play area on the floor. Given they already owned the beautiful Oeuf classic crib, it made sense to use this piece as the starting point for the room. The only other items that were a must keep were the curtains, as they had been custom made to fit the windows not too long ago.
My client loved the idea of wallpaper but to keep costs contained, decided on these lovely star decals instead.
Below I'm sharing a sneak peek of what's to come in the full room reveal very soon!
I love how these clear shelves show the books as art and these gorgeous wood toys from Trae Designs are a local market find! Stay tuned to see the full room reveal that I am SO excited to share.

HAPPY THURSDAY + WHAT WE'RE READING...
Have you ever stumbled across something that makes your heart skip a little beat? That you look at and are blown away by? That makes you feel like you just HAVE to share it with your friends? This gorgeous book, Mindful 1, 2, 3, written and illustrated by Tamara Hackett of Sweet Clover Studios did just that for me. I LOVE it...and am so excited to share the creativity, beautiful words and dreamy watercolour illustrations with you!
When I received the book, I opened it to find the sweetest words to go along with a simple concept of counting and numbers. Tamara's mission is to create purpose-filled resources for children and educators and this book is the perfect tool to initiate conversations about mindful moments in life, all while counting numbers! I found that my shoulders relaxed a little and my own mind switched to calm with each page I turned. When I read it to the kids the next day, they seemed to feel the same way.
Here is an example of number 3, a page filled with words every child would love to hear.
Not only an enriching book unlike any counting book I've come across before, it looks beautiful on the bookshelf along with other treasures in the girls room too!!!
Tamara has kindly shared a freebie to go along with the book that I'm sure your kids would love. If you are interested in purchasing the book, you can find both the hardcover version and softcover versions below.

HELLO!
WINTER DAISY was created when Melissa Barling was laying on the couch while pregnant with twins. She dreamed of a beautiful baby room but couldn't get up and make it happen. The babies were born and in those mid night wakes and early morning feeds, she decided to leave her corporate job to start a design studio + blog. Welcome to WINTER DAISY.
